Why this matters now
ECE regulatory responsibilities transferred to ERO on 1 September 2026. This is a useful time to check that your team knows the current pathways and can show how your centre puts requirements into practice.
From requirements to everyday practice
Make the next steps clear.
Who handles what now
Understand ERO’s regulatory role, the Ministry’s continuing role, and where to find current guidance for your service.
Incidents and complaints
Work through recognising concerns, recording the facts and checking the appropriate notification or escalation pathway.
Records that reflect practice
Review how policies, staff understanding and day-to-day records connect. Identify gaps that need follow-up.
A practical centre plan
Prioritise what to check next, assign responsibility and set review dates so the learning leads to action.
Leave with a focused 30-day action plan.
Use the learning to review your centre’s practice, brief your team and decide what needs attention first.
Designed for: centre owners, managers, leaders, persons responsible and teaching teams in New Zealand centre-based ECE services.

A few useful details.
How does the learning work?
The course is online and self-paced. Allow around 90 minutes for the learning and reflection activities. You can pause, return and revisit the course with lifetime access.
What does a whole-centre licence cover?
It covers the team at one ECE centre. Staff can work through the learning together or individually. Organisations with several centres need access for each centre; contact us for help.
Is this an official ERO course?
This is independent professional learning from Micro PLD. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by ERO, the Ministry of Education or any government agency. The certificate records course completion; it does not certify a service’s compliance or guarantee a review outcome.
Will the same requirements apply to every ECE service?
Requirements and review arrangements depend on service type and circumstances. The course focuses on centre-based services and encourages leaders to check the current criteria and official guidance that apply to their own service.
