For the moments that shape the day

A shared approach.
Small changes your team can use.

Repeated reminders, unsettled transitions and difficult moments can take attention away from teaching. This course helps staff think through what to teach, what to say and what to change—while protecting learners’ dignity.

01 / Routines

Make the next step predictable.

Teach arrival, transitions and task-start routines. Practise them in small steps, using the space and resources you already have.

02 / Instructions

Help learners get started.

Give shorter directions, model the first step and check understanding. Distinguish a missed instruction from a skill that needs teaching.

03 / Connection

Keep expectations clear and respectful.

Use specific encouragement, private redirection and achievable choices. Build cooperation without public arguments or humiliation.

04 / Calm responses

Respond without adding heat.

Recognise early signs of difficulty, reduce your language and follow your school’s support procedures when safety is at risk.

05 / Additional needs

Look beyond the behaviour.

Consider communication, task difficulty, sensory demands and belonging. Adjust the task or environment without lowering your care for the learner.

06 / Working together

Make the response more consistent.

Plan a respectful family conversation, agree useful information to share and choose a small change to review with your team.

A short course sample

What would you say
in this moment?

A learner has not started writing. When reminded in front of the class, they say, “I’m not doing it.” Other learners are watching.

There is no immediate safety threat. Your aim is to help the learner re-enter the task while keeping the rest of the class learning.

“Let’s start with one idea. You can tell it to me, or write the first word.”

Illustrative scenario. Adapt language, task demands and support to your learners and school procedures.

Explore the response

Choose an approach to see the thinking behind it.

Insist on an immediate explanation in front of everyone

A public discussion can add pressure and draw an audience. Unless immediate safety requires action, keep the first response brief and discuss what happened privately when the learner is calm.

Move closer calmly and offer one manageable first step

This creates a possible route back into learning. Speak privately where possible, keep a respectful distance, offer a genuine choice and allow processing time. Check whether the task, language or materials are a barrier.

Remove the learning task for the rest of the lesson

A short supported pause may help, but simply abandoning the task does not teach the missing skill. Plan an achievable return, with support matched to what the learner needs.

From the course to your classroom

Learn it. Rehearse it. Try it together.

01

Work through the examples.

Six short lessons bring everyday classroom decisions into focus. Pause, discuss and revisit the parts your team needs.

02

Practise the next response.

Use the scenarios and checks to rehearse a clearer instruction, a calm reminder or a useful adjustment.

03

Choose one change to review.

Leave with a two-week action plan: one practice, the support it needs and a date to see how it is helping.

Before you enrol

A few useful answers.

Who is this course for?

Primary-school teachers, headteachers and staff who support learners in classrooms. It focuses on everyday behaviour support and inclusive teaching. It is not clinical training or a specialist crisis-response qualification.

Is this a live session?

No. It is online and self-paced. Staff can pause and return, then revisit the examples when a similar situation arises.

What does whole-school access cover?

One purchase covers staff working at one school, including your teaching, leadership and classroom support team. Please keep the access link within that school. A school group with several sites should contact us for a group arrangement.

Do we need new equipment or programmes?

The classroom strategies use ordinary teaching resources. Online course access needs an internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer. Activities can be discussed together as a staff team.

How does it fit our school’s own approach?

Use the examples alongside your school’s behaviour, inclusion and child-protection procedures. The strategies draw on international education evidence; the course has not been independently evaluated in Fiji. Adapt them with your staff and families. Micro PLD is an independent provider; this course does not claim Fiji Ministry or teacher-registration approval.

Can our school pay by invoice?

Yes. Email owen@micropld.co.nz with your school name, billing email and any purchase-order reference. The whole-school introductory price is NZ$195 total.

Practical Behaviour Support in Busy Classrooms is professional learning, not individual clinical advice. Where a learner or another person may be at risk, follow your school’s immediate safety and safeguarding procedures and seek the appropriate local support.
